Some Specific Features Of Sphynx

Their eyes are devoid of eyelashes. Eyelashes are not only decoration, but especially the natural filter, which protects the eyeball from the excessive pollution in the environment (dust, pollens).

Sphynx opens its eyes wide very rarely, but they water a lot. This is the way to clean the surface of the cornea from the motes.

Half-closed, profusely cleaning eyes are physiological. Completely healthy cat has pink, not swollen conjunctives. Tears seem to be transparent jelly. They don’t become thicker, because they cannot sink into fur.

ATTENTION: Be patient but don’t treat healthy eyes of naked cats.

Auricle and external auditory canal are filled with brown, sticky and odour-free excretion. This excretion is called ear-wax and it protects ear from contamination. The ear-wax is a kind of biological filter – natural barrier against the germs: bacteria, viruses and fungi. It protects the ear from inflammation.

ATTENTION: We don’t treat healthy ears. Brown, odour-free excretion is physiological.

If someone casts doubt on appearance of ears, I will first recommend to ask the vet to make an ear swab. Bacterial and mycotic test of the excretion should be done then.

Sphynxs have thicker pads of paws in comparison with other cats. They look like “airbags”.

Craws are covered in the brown excretion with consistency of plasticine.

Cat’s sweat and sebaceous glands are the most profusely distributed in the interdigital areas – cat sweats there. The glands excretion gathers around the craw and it’s getting dark in contact with air. Other cats’ (those with hair) glands excretion is invisible, because it’s distributed to the fur. Sphynxs do clean their craws themselves.

Kittens of this breed open the eyes 2-3 days after the birth, sometimes they are born with open eyes.
